You know what to do.

[ It's the only thing he sends back, moving out of the chair as if he's suddenly motivated to do busywork. Honestly, there's not much to do in the bow except monitor the equipment, and he's sort of leaning over the screen when Tony announces himself, head tilting to the side to look at him. ]
You got here pretty fast. [ Pointing out the obvious, as always. Maybe he should be worried about whatever it is Tony wants him to do. ] Everything still good?

[ Which he contradicts with an airy shrug, depositing his hands in his pockets before they can fidget. He comes to a stop next to Steve, giving the screens a brief, vaguely curious glance. They don't hold his attention for long, though, because he's here to have an actual serious conversation for once. ]
But I can make a point to be late from now on, if you're more into that.
[ Well, sorta serious. ]

You know that's not what I meant. [ And then he follows up with: ] What did you want to talk about? [ Because straightforward is the only way he can be with Tony. It's either that or spend the next several weeks skirting around the topic, though he hopes he isn't there for more honesty. Steve isn't sure he can tell him much more without feeling even more guilt over it. ]

[ Steve Rogers has jumped out of airplanes to avoid less concerning conversations. Perhaps a cold, crushing death in the vacuum of space will dissuade him this time. ]

Depends what you mean when you say that. [ Can you see the frown, Tony? ] What about "us"?

[ He doesn't know enough about the future to know if friend is the right word to use there. He wouldn't presume, and the time period he's from, they're still just working on the "teammate" part. But that eerie little year-long jaunt on party planet was like a looking glass into what could be, instead of what is. ]
So, look, I get it. You're from the future and I'm from the past and some shit went down that I know barely anything about - and I'm not asking for details, by the way, Christ, don't give me any more goddamn details, I don't wanna know. I'm gonna live it one way or another, it doesn't matter now. And yeah, it's awkward, and weird, and frustrating. Trust me, nobody hates it as much as I do, half the time I don't know who the hell anybody even is—
[ He breaks off abruptly, like he realizes he's digressing, and pockets his hands to keep from fidgeting. ]
Anyway, point is: can we just make this simple? This is driving me crazy. You're in space, I'm in space, let's just... start over from here. Without all the walking on eggshells and weird dancing around not-secrets and... [ And takes one hand out of his pocket solely to gesture vaguely with it. ] Whatever.
